FAQ

Community Children’s Theatre : Auditions FAQ

Q: Who can audition?
A: Children ages 8-18 are eligible to participate in Community Children’s Theatre. Students must be ages 8-18 years old at the time of auditions.

Q: What should I wear for auditions?
A: Comfortable clothing is best since there will be a dance audition as well as a singing audition.

Q: Do I need to bring music for my vocal audition?
A: We ask that you try to bring sheet music or you can use a Karaoke/Non-vocal track on a CD, phone or iPad (with auxiliary capability). If finding sheet music or a karaoke track gets in the way of you auditioning, you can sing something without music.

Q: Will there be someone there to play the piano for me?
A: Yes. We provide a piano player at every audition that can sight-read music and play along with you as you sing for your audition.

Q: If I bring a CD, phone or iPad, will there be a device to play the music?
A: Yes. We have a speaker that can play music from CDs, phones, and iPads in the room that you will be in for your audition. Please make sure your CD is an instrumental/karaoke version of the song so we can hear your voice and not the original singer’s voice!

Q: How long will the audition take?
A: You will audition at the time that you have signed up for. Please arrive 15 minutes early.  A group of 10 will go to dance and the other 10 go to music/singing and then we switch. Once you begin the audition, you are usually done within one hour.

Q: How long will I have to wait to find out if I’m cast?
A: It’s usually just a matter of two or three days before the cast list is announced. The cast list will be posted on our social media accounts, as well as at cctpeoria.org/cast.

Q: Is there a fee to participate in a Community Children’s Theatre production?
A: There is no fee to audition. However, if a child is cast in a CCT production, there is a $100 registration fee that must be turned in before that child is allowed to come to rehearsals. If there is a financial hardship, some scholarships may be available. Please email friendsofcct@gmail.com if you have more questions about this.

Q: Will every cast member be required to be at every rehearsal?
A: No. Some rehearsals may call for the full cast, and others may only call for one or two actors. A rehearsal schedule will be given out at the first parent meeting for the first couple of weeks of rehearsals, and from then out you’ll get a new schedule about two weeks in advance. The closer we get to performances, the more often everyone will need to be at rehearsals. The entire cast is expected to attend all rehearsals the final two weeks leading up to and including the performances.

Q: Where are the auditions?
A: Auditions will be at CCT’s Offstage Building – 8900 N Industrial Rd. in Peoria.

Q: If I’m going on vacation for a week can I still be part of the production?
A: If you know at auditions that you have a vacation planned, please note it on your audition form. The director will look at any conflicts and make the casting decision based on that. Typically a vacation doesn’t ruin your chances of being cast unless the vacation is during the week leading up to the performances.

Q: What about other conflicts?
A: Any conflicts you know of at auditions need to be written down and upon being cast in the production, you will be excused from those rehearsals. If a conflict comes up once you’ve been cast, please let a board member know about it right away. If too many conflicts are added after being cast, the child may lose their part.
