Community Children’s Theatre —- Auditions FAQ
Q: Who can audition?
A: Any child ages 8 – 18 can participate. The child must be eight years old by the date of auditions, and no older than 18 at auditions.
Q: What should I wear for auditions?
A: Comfortable clothing is best, since there will be a dance audition as well as a singing audition.
Q: Do I need to bring music for my vocal audition?
A: You may choose to do a vocal audition a cappella, however must directors prefer to hear you sing with a piano or CD.
Q: Will there be someone there to play the piano for me?
A: Yes. We provide a piano player at every audition that can sight-read music and play along with you as you sing for your audition.
Q: If I bring a CD will there be a CD player for me?
A: Yes. We have a CD player in the audition room that you can use for your audition. Please make sure your CD is an instrumental/karaoke version of the song so we can hear your voice and not the original singer’s voice!
Q: How long will the audition take?
A: We typically call the children in groups of 20 to audition – 10 go to dance and 10 go to music and then we switch. Once you’re called back you’re usually done within 45 minutes. We call children back in the order they arrived and registered, so come a little early to auditions if you want to be in the first group!
Q: How long will I have to wait to find out if I’m cast?
A: It’s usually just a matter of two or three days before the cast list is announced. The cast list will be posted on our Facebook and Twitter accounts, as well as at cctpeoria.org/cast.
Q: Is there a fee to participate in a Community Children’s Theatre production?
A: There is no fee to audition, however if a child is cast in a CCT production, there is a $61 registration fee that must be turned in before that child is allowed to come to rehearsals. Scholarships are available through the Peoria Park District. Ask if you have more questions about this.
Q: Will every cast member be required to be at every rehearsal?
A: No. Some rehearsals may call for the full cast, and others may only call for one or two actors. A rehearsal schedule will be given out at the first parent meeting for the first couple of weeks of rehearsals, and from then out you’ll get a new schedule about two weeks in advance. The closer we get to performances the more often everyone will need to be at rehearsals. The final two weeks leading up to the performances you can expect every needed everyday.
Q: Where are the auditions?
A: Auditions will be at CCT’s Rehearsal Building – 8800 N Industrial Rd. in Peoria.
Q: When are the auditions?
A: Audition dates and times can be found on our audition page.
Q: If I’m going on vacation for a week can I still be part of the production?
A: If you know at auditions that you have a vacation planned please note it on your audition form. The director will look at any conflicts and make the casting decision based on that. Typically a vacation doesn’t ruin your chances of being cast unless the vacation is during the week leading up to the performances.
Q: What about other conflicts?
A: Any conflicts you know of at auditions need to be written down and upon being cast in the production you will be excused of those rehearsals. If a conflict comes up once you’ve been cast please let a board member know about it right away.
